THE LIFE AND TRAVELS OF HERODOTUS

Born in the city of Halicarnassus in Caria in 484 BC, Herodotus, son of Lykses of Caria, is known as the “Father of History”. He is the oldest historian in the true sense of the word, known with his magnificient work “History of Herodotus”. In his work, he tells the true history of the ancient world and is therefore considered to be the father of history. Archaeologist Mehmet Çuhadar will provide information about the lesser-known life of Herodotus, as well as details about his travels in the ancient world. Together with Herodotus, we will visit the land of the Scythians, the Black Sea, Egypt, Mesopotamia, Greece, and Anatolia.

MEHMET ÇUHADAR (1949, Kahramanmaraş)
Mehmet Çuhadar graduated from Ankara University, Faculty of Language, History and Geography, Classical Archeology Department and served in Konya Archeology Museum and Bodrum Underwater Archeology Museum. He participated in archaeological excavations in the Muğla region since his student years and also worked as a government representative on behalf of the Ministry of Culture in a number of foreign led excavations. Mehmet Çuhadar gave numerous conferences on Turkey's Cultural Heritage, Faith Tourism in Turkey, Underwater Archeology in Bodrum, Caria Culture, Herodotus and Tourism. In 1997 Çuhadar received from the Association of Tourism Writers "The Best Guide" award for his services in the industry. He also wrote books on Cappadocia Regions, and published maps highlighting Turkey's historical, archaeological and cultural values.
