HERODOTOS OF HALIKARNASSOS WEEK
Born in Caria, Halicarnassus, between 480-490 BC, Herodotos, son of Lykses from Caria, is known as the "father of history" because of his magnificent work "History (Herodotus History)".

Herodotus gives Bodrum the best gift by stating where he is from in the first sentence of his book:
“This is the research presented to the public by Herodotus of Halicarnassus”.

Herodotus, regarded as the founding father of history, was born and raised at Halicarnassus and remained there until he was about 30 years old. The dates of October 31–November 6, 2022, will be recognized as "Herodotos of Halikarnassos Week" and various events will be planned in this context to remind our people—particularly children and young people—of this forgotten fact and to keep the name of Herodotus alive in his homeland.

We intend to repeat this commemoration of Herodotus in the country where he was born every year and to elevate these occasions to the point where visitors from other countries will also be interested over time.

All Bodrum citizens are invited to embrace and participate in the events that would represent Bodrum as the birthplace of Herodotus, the Father of History, in the eyes of the entire world.

HERODOTUS
He was born in Halikarnassos (today known as Bodrum) in Western Anatolia, BC, with the name Herodotos, known to people. Having been born between 480 and 490, Herodotus was the world's first "investigative historian" and writer. The Fisherman of Halicarnassus claims that Herodotus is the first traveler ever. To free their nation from the Persian tyranny, a party led by Panyassis, Herodotus' uncle and a well-known poet, rises up; however, this endeavor fails, and Panyassis is killed as a result. Herodotus then departs from Halicarnassus and embarks on an exile in Samos. Following this departure, he sets off on lengthy explorations, saving enough money to write the book that will make him famous around the world even today.

Herodotus traveled far and far away to accomplish his goals over 2400 years ago when the roads were hazardous and dangerous people roamed them. He produced Historiae (History) during his retirement in Thurii in Southern Italy, earning him the title "Father of History." Consisting of 9 volumes, this masterpiece, is the second-most-read book in the world today, behind the Bible. Although Herodotus was a Carian, he wrote his book in ancient Greek which was the common language used for supraregional communication.
